University of Kelaniya


Introduction…




University of Kelaniya is located on Dalugama, Kelaniya in Sri Lanka. It was started in 1875 as “Widyalankara Pirivena” by Sri Dharmaloka thero. There are 14 blocks  in the university according to the university map. There are 7 faculties from these blocks.







Faculty of science
The dean of the faculty of science is Prof.(Ms.)B.M. Jayawardena and the assistant registrar is Mr. S. Maniwannan. There are 9 departments in the faculty. Department of Botany, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics Computer science, Department of Industrial Management, Department of Microbiology, Department of Environmental Management and zoology.








Administration Builbing
The administration building is located on block E and it is consisted with the Academic division who the deputy registrar is Ms. M.M.N.T.K. Yalegama and student welfare division who the director is Mr. Chaminda Abeysinghe. Registration of students and Issuing Student ID cards and record books are done from the academic division. Then, administration and maintenance of hostels, canteens, student center, the book shop, the milk bar, and ect.  are done by the welfare division.




Faculty of Humanities and Social Science
Faculty of Humanities and Social Science is located in the block K according to the university map. There are 9 departments and the ELTU in the Faculty of humanities. As well as there are 9 departments in faculty of social science. The dean of the Faculty of Humanities is prof. Lakshman Senevirathne and the dean of Faculty of Social Science is A.H.M.H.abayawardhana.



 The basketball court
The basketball court is located at the block N and it is near to the student center.





Student hostels
Some student hostels (girls hostels) are located in the university premises which is in block L. Sangamiththa, Viharamaha Devi and Bandaranayake girls hostel  is in the block L. A canteen and a grocery shop are consisted.

Paper Tower Game According to my point of view, this paper tower game which we have done in our ppd session is not just a game. It can be considered as a group activity which can improve our soft skills which cannot be developed only by doing the academic stuff. Leadership skills, speaking ability, creative thinking and time management are some of those soft skills. What is the paper tower game? First of all we were divided into three groups by counting. In this activity we were provided 12 papers, a gum tape and a pair of scissors. Apart from that, the tower that we built could be stand at the given place. Then we have to build the tallest tower within the given 45 minutes. How did we do that? First of all we had a small discussion about the way we build the tower. What you learn from PPD PPD which is known as Personal Progress Development can be considered as a guild line of our lives. Not only that but also it is energy and time saving method. From these PPD sessions that we had in our university, we were able to make new unforgettable memories as well as good lessons. According to my view, our PPD session is mainly focused on the point which is having a strategy before starting a task. We have to pay more attention to some points like the dead line, way of doing the task (analysing the task), things that make the task easier, way of getting maximum use from the given resources. First of all we have to spend some time on analyzing the given task or the activity. Then we have to put our effort according to the impotency of each work.
